COVID-19: What You Need to Know About Kaiser Permanente’s New Vaccine Equity Toolkit
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the significant inequities that exist in health care in America. When it comes to vaccination, particularly Black, Indigenous, and Latinx communities are most likely to face significant barriers fueled by lack of access, misinformation, and structural disparities, posing health risks to these communities.
In an effort to thoughtfully approach an equitable COVID-19 vaccine demand across the U.S., Kaiser Permanente has created and released a free Vaccine Equity Toolkit for healthcare organizations, health plans, and state and local governments with the goal of bringing hope to end the pandemic.
This toolkit is meant to be adaptable to the unique needs, capacity, and context of communities and organizations. It offers a framework for measuring vaccine equity along with metrics and indices to assess impact. Furthermore, the core of the toolkit offers a suite of equity-enabling opportunities that can be activated to enhance current vaccine administration approaches.
In creating this toolkit, Kaiser Permanente is not suggesting it has all the answers. Rather the organization hopes that through sharing best practices, learning from each other, and applying and further sharing what is learned, every part of American health care can play a part in helping ensure everyone has access to these life saving vaccines.
