Transitioning: Insights into Changing
from Fee Based to Value Based Payment Models

This could be the most challenging
time to be a physician since … ever.
Technological change continues in medicine, but
doctors are used to managing rapidly evolving
technology. The legal and regulatory climates
continue to heat and cool, but that’s nothing
new to most physicians. Instead, the changes
creating the challenges are those at the
intersection of clinical practice and the
back-office business trends that have been
absolutely upended in the last couple decades.
The transition to value-based reimbursement
(VBR) is in full swing, but a higher percentage
of total reimbursement still tends to come from
the fee-for-service (FFS) part of purchaser
relationships. So providers are caught in the
middle, often wondering if they’re really on top
of either the FFS processes of the past or the
VBR processes of the future – and trying to
figure out how to make the transition from one
to the other. There’s help available.
