with traditional open procedures |

Outcomes-Based ContractingTM is an approach that is being received with great applause as the continued rise in health care costs prompts employers and plan sponsors to rethink health care management. Minimally invasive procedures (MIP), is evaluated for consideration as part of a value-based benefits design strategy. There are many advantages to minimally invasive procedures. But are they always the right treatments by every surgeon in every hospital? The principles of value-based purchasing must also be applied when considering whether open surgery or minimally invasive surgery is the best option for a particular patient. With a VBD approach to encourage MIP use relative to open surgical procedures, employers and plan sponsors can help to influence the health care supply chain to accelerate adoption of more cost-effective and clinically beneficial treatment options. Join Cyndy Nayer, MA, President and CEO and Peter Hayes, Secretary of the Center for Health Value Innovation to discuss the findings of the Center’s most recent paper: Outcomes-Based Contracting™: The Value-Based Approach for Optimal Health with Minimally Invasive Procedures. The costs, complications, and work performance outcomes of this surgical approach are compared with the traditional open procedural approach. The results of the Center’s analysis, along with employer MIP value-based design case studies and recommendations for employer and plan sponsor strategies will be discussed.
