Mark Smith, MD, MBA, Founding President & Former CEO,
California Health Care Foundation called on health care
leaders to learn black history, identify unconscious
bias, and link their equity initiatives to quality
improvement efforts as the nation reckons with centuries
of racial injustice and systemic racism. Smith spoke in
a keynote address at the Virtual Summit on Health System
Recovery from COVID-19 Pandemic, June 22 - 25, 2020. He
also addressed the disparities emerging in the pandemic,
as higher proportions of Black, Latinx, and low income
Americans have fallen ill and died from COVID-19. Dr.
Smith's presentation should be heard by all involved in
the nation's health system.
