Claims
submission and processing may be the root canal of healthcare delivery.
Payers often reject claims on a routine basis for minor technical
reasons, creating annoyances for large healthcare systems and potential
financial duress for small practices and medical groups. However, alternatives to the traditional submit-and-hold-your-breath process are beginning to emerge. Blue Shield of California, the Hospital Association of Southern California (HASC) and its affiliated hospitals engaged in a year-long project to streamline the claims submission process. The result has been far more approved claims, greater cash flow to providers and increased satisfaction among the region’s providers. Hospitals in Northern California are now entering into a similar collaborative with Blue Shield. Join Kenny Deng, senior director of Blue Shield’s provider services and operations, Dan Martinez, director of patient services at Mission Hospital and George Mack, vice president of payer/provider relations at HASC, to discuss the nuts and bolts of this unique collaborative. |
