Why Attend AHIP’s National Policy Forum?

Your time is valuable, so why are we encouraging you to take a few days away from the office to attend AHIP’s National Policy Forum, March 6-7, 2012, in Washington, D.C.? For starters, it provides a unique opportunity to not only share information and insights about the shape of our country’s health care system, but to act on the issues of overriding concern to all: how implementation is proceeding, the debate about the individual mandate, states’ Exchanges, and the forthcoming elections. AHIP’s National Policy Forum is the only meeting of its kind that brings together all the key players in the health care policy arena.

A Timely Forum

With ongoing health care reform implementation and the looming presidential election, this forum could not be timelier. We’ll be hosting names you recognize from the news as well as the behind-the-scenes powerbrokers, such as key committee and personal staffers from Capitol Hill, leaders of the federal agencies, and the country's most renowned academicians. These are the individuals who drive and advance our nation’s health care policy.

Here are a few of the prestigious speakers who will be sharing their insights:

  • The Role of Health Plans in Creating a 21st Century Health Care System
Patrick J. Geraghty, Chairman & CEO, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida
Eric H. Schultz, President & CEO, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Inc.
  • New Approaches to Bending the Cost Curve
Stuart M. Butler, PhD, Distinguished Fellow and Director, Center for Policy Innovation, The Heritage Foundation
David B. Kendall, Senior Fellow for Health and Fiscal Policy, Third Way
  • Effective Prescriptions for Improving Quality and Reducing Costs
Doug Holtz-Eakin, President, American Action Forum; former Commissioner on the Congressionally-Chartered Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission; and former Director, Congressional Budget Office
Len M. Nichols, PhD, Professor of Health Policy and Director, GMU Center for Health Policy Research and Ethics, College of Health and Human Services, George Mason University

  • Making Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security Sustainable for the Long Run
Alice M. Rivlin, Senior Fellow, Economic Studies, Brookings Institution and Co-Chair, Bipartisan Policy Center's Debt Reduction Task Force

In addition to the National Policy Forum...

For a single trip, you may also attend AHIP’s Summit on Shared Accountability (March 5) or AHIP’s Exchange Conference (March 7-8).

Summit on Shared Accountability (March 5)
The Summit will continue to showcase innovative models that regional and national health plans have implemented to achieve the three-part aim. A variety of approaches such as accountable care organizations, patient-centered medical homes, and bundled payment will be showcased. The Summit will highlight key program features, successes, and lessons learned that can help enhance an understanding of alternative pathways to building a sustainable, high-quality health care system.

Exchange Conference (March 7-8)
Exchanges continue to be one of the most pressing health care reform implementation issues for health plans, states, and national policy makers. AHIP’s series of Exchange Conferences have addressed the policy and operational issues over the past year. We continue in 2012 by examining the critical issues for health plans with a focus on the practical challenges including the impact of health insurance market reforms, implementation of premium payments, submission of benefit and rate information to the Exchange, and the implications for the consumer experience using web portals to search for insurance options. AHIP’s next Exchange Conference will provide you with information to stay ahead of implementation.
