Overview

The specter of global warming and ever-rising energy costs have prompted healthcare providers to be far more environmentally conscious than ever. Green healthcare now permeates many stages of both construction projects and day-to-day operations, whether in the use of solar panels to power buildings and equipment, or the striving for LEED certifications.

But is that all there is to green healthcare? Should the mindsets of planners and administrators keep environmental initiatives in mind, or should environmental awareness be a holistic part of healthcare management?

This webinar will answer these questions and more. It is co-sponsored by Payers & Providers and features two of the biggest names in the green healthcare movement: Gary Cohen of Health Care Without Harm and Kathy Gerwig of Kaiser Permanente.

About Health Care Without Harm
The Boston-based Health Care Without Harm is an international coalition of hospitals and healthcare systems, medical professionals, community groups, health-affected constituencies, labor unions, environmental and environmental health organizations and religious groups. The organization encourages healthcare organizations to engage in more environmentally conscious practices such as disposal of medical waste without incineration and green building practices.

About Kaiser Permanente
The Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente is one of the largest healthcare organizations in the United States. Its Environmental Stewardship Council has pushed the organization to purchase more renewable goods and use more sources of renewable energy and engage in green building practices.
