Overview

Achieving standards alone will take health systems only so far on the road to the meaningful use of EHRs and health IT. As the health industry continues to converge in response to regulatory pressures, health systems will need to transform the way they deliver care, so they can sustain performance and grow revenue in the future. Success will hinge on health systems' closer integration with key constituents—physicians, health insurers, and patients—than in the past. Meaningful use has cleared a road of opportunity to make this happen. How aggressively health systems are traveling the road varies.

This presentation, which includes original research from PwC's Health Research Institute, provides a progress report on health systems' meaningful use initiatives and focuses on how provider organizations can inject meaning into these initiatives for patients by engaging and empowering them to become active participants in their own care.
